Creative England’s Greenshoots Fund Re-opens to Applications from Games Developers
Through the Greenshoots programme, funding is available for independent games studios to develop new games for consoles and mobile devices. Microsoft and Creative England are offering support to help studios develop their own original game idea into a money-making reality. The programme is designed to inject businesses with funds for development and marketing. Studios only pay back the investment when they’re making money from the game.
The funder is looking for original game ideas from companies that can demonstrate business growth, project management and robust teams. The scheme is also concerned with the creation and /or safeguarding of long-term, sustainable jobs within the computer games industry within the eligible regions.
Through the Greenshoots Fund, investments will be awarded to SME games companies for the development and commercial release of new game IP on any platforms, but must include Windows 10 and/or Xbox One.
Investments of between £25,000 and £50,000 will be provided. Investments will made in denominations of £5,000 (eg £25,000, £30,000, £35,000 etc.)
In addition to the grants, successful applicants will also receive support, mentorship and expertise from Microsoft and industry partners.
Project expenditure must relate to the project named in the application and not to support other areas of the business. The budget will be approved as part of the contracting process and this will evidence areas of anticipated spend. Creative England anticipates the project costs will be made up of the following:
Greenshoots is aimed at any privately held start-up independent games studios located in the English regions, outside of London.
- Hardware/software purchases
- Marketing costs
- Fees (eg consultants, freelancers, marketing, events)
- Overheads (eg office rental or associated costs)
- Employee salaries/workforce costs
The deadline for receipt of applications for the next round is 2 August 2016.
